FPL does not reward a formation by itself.
The best formation is the one that places your strongest available players in the starting eleven.
Your squad always contains two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards. For each Gameweek, the starting lineup must include:
- One goalkeeper
- At least three defenders
- At least two midfielders
- At least one forward
That allows several legal formations, including 3-4-3, 3-5-2 and 4-4-2.

3-4-3 starts all three forwards while keeping four midfielders.

3-5-2 starts all five midfielders and only two forwards.
Midfielders receive an extra point per goal compared with forwards and can receive clean-sheet points.

4-4-2: balanced and increasingly viable
4-4-2 starts four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards.
Defensive-contribution points make some centre-backs more reliable, while attacking full-backs can score through assists and bonus.
