FPL Position Changes 2026/27: All 11 Players Ranked

Official Fantasy Premier League has reclassified 11 players for the 2026/27 season.

A position change affects more than the label beside a player's name. It can change points per goal, clean-sheet points, available squad slots and the players competing for the same place in your team.

All 11 official position changes

The ranking reflects current FPL selection value, not simply whether the reclassification is favourable.

How scoring changes by position

This explains why a midfielder moving to defender can become more attractive even when his real-life role stays the same.

1. Mats Wieffer

Wieffer is the most appealing change because he moves from midfield to defence after featuring at right-back during 2025/26.

He now receives:

• Six points per goal
• Four points for a clean sheet after 60 minutes
• Defender-level defensive-contribution eligibility
• Access to a defensive squad slot rather than a crowded midfield slot

His official launch price is £5.0m.

The risk is tactical. A new signing or formation change could move him back into central midfield or reduce his starts.

2. Ryan Sessegnon

Sessegnon becomes a defender after being listed as a midfielder.

This can be valuable because his strongest Fantasy role has always involved attacking from the left side. A defender playing as a wing-back can combine clean sheets, goals and assists.

Fulham have a new head coach in Alvaro Arbeloa, so Sessegnon's exact role is not yet guaranteed.

OneFPL verdict: High upside, but wait for repeated starts in the expected first team.

3. Patrick Dorgu

Dorgu is now a midfielder after Michael Carrick used him as a left winger.

He scored in all three league starts after Carrick arrived, including returns against Arsenal, Manchester City and Brighton.

The new classification removes:

• Four-point clean sheets
• Six points per goal
• Access to a defender slot

However, it also makes his actual role clearer. At £6.0m, he should be judged against attacking midfielders rather than defenders.

Manchester United begin against Hull and Ipswich, so his minutes are the main question.

OneFPL verdict: Interesting Gameweek 1 differential only when the starting role is secure.

4. Keane Lewis-Potter

Lewis-Potter moves from defender to midfielder and costs £5.5m.

The reclassification is a scoring downgrade, but it reflects the wide and advanced positions he can occupy.

Brentford's attacking competition means managers should check whether he is starting as a winger, wing-back or substitute.

OneFPL verdict: Watchlist rather than opening-squad priority.

5. Georginio Rutter

Rutter moves from midfielder to forward.

He loses the extra point per goal and midfielder clean-sheet points. He also enters a forward pool containing Haaland, Isak, Watkins, Thiago and several mid-priced options.

His appeal now depends on playing centrally and receiving enough minutes to justify a forward slot.

OneFPL verdict: The change reduces his flexibility and overall value.

6. Omar Marmoush

Marmoush is now a £7.0m forward.

Manchester City's strong opening fixtures are attractive, but Haaland remains the first-choice striker and the squad contains several attacking options.

Moving to forward means Marmoush no longer receives five points per goal or clean-sheet points.

OneFPL verdict: High ceiling, very high minutes risk.

7. Eric Moreira

Moreira moves from midfield to defence.

A defensive classification can be valuable if Oliver Glasner uses him as a wing-back. It becomes less useful when he is only a substitute.

OneFPL verdict: Monitor Forest's pre-season formation and first-choice wing-backs.

8. Rio Cardines

Cardines is now a defender for Crystal Palace.

The change could be beneficial, but his first-team role is not established enough to make the scoring change immediately important.

OneFPL verdict: Academy watchlist, not a Gameweek 1 selection.

9. Lamare Bogarde

Bogarde changes from defender to midfielder.

This removes defender clean-sheet points while he remains more likely to play a defensive or central role than an advanced attacking one.

OneFPL verdict: Classification downgrade for Fantasy.

10. Myles Lewis-Skelly

Lewis-Skelly returns to his natural midfield classification after appearing as a defender in earlier FPL seasons.

The change reflects Arsenal's use of him as a left-sided midfielder during the title run-in.

His appeal is limited by competition from Rice, Eze, Zubimendi, Merino and other Arsenal midfielders.

OneFPL verdict: Talented player, but the position change and minutes competition reduce FPL appeal.

11. Junior Kroupi

Kroupi's move from forward to midfielder would normally be one of the strongest changes.

He scored 13 goals in 33 appearances last season while often operating behind Evanilson. As a midfielder, those goals would earn five points rather than four, plus possible clean-sheet points.

However, Bournemouth confirmed on 29 July that Kroupi underwent successful surgery after suffering a foot injury in pre-season training.

OneFPL verdict: Remove him from Gameweek 1 drafts and reassess after a confirmed return date.
