Morgan Rogers is officially a Chelsea player after completing a record British transfer from Aston Villa, reported at around £117m.
The 23-year-old has signed a long-term contract and joins Xabi Alonso's squad after establishing himself as one of the Premier League's most productive young attackers. His move is no longer a rumour, so FPL managers can now assess him as part of Chelsea's actual attacking structure.
Rogers has been launched at £7.5m in Fantasy Premier League and remains classified as a midfielder. That combination immediately places him among the most interesting mid-priced options for 2026/27.

Where could Rogers play for Chelsea?
Rogers is expected to operate as a left-sided inside forward or one of the two attacking midfielders in Alonso's preferred structure.
That role suits his main strengths:
- Carrying the ball through pressure
- Receiving between midfield and defence
- Driving into the penalty area
- Combining with a central striker
- Creating chances after moving inside from the flank
The biggest attraction is that Rogers should play close to Cole Palmer. Palmer can create from the right or central areas while Rogers provides direct running from the opposite side. Chelsea should have more ways to progress the ball and attack crowded defences than they did last season.
Does Rogers reduce Cole Palmer's FPL appeal?
Not necessarily.
Rogers gives Chelsea another high-quality creator and ball carrier, which could improve the overall attack. Palmer should still be the leading penalty taker and one of the main set-piece options. Rogers is therefore unlikely to take Palmer's strongest source of predictable FPL points.
The main concern is how Chelsea distribute minutes across Rogers, Palmer, Pedro Neto, Estevao, Geovany Quenda and the club's forwards. Pre-season line-ups will be essential.
The case for selecting Rogers
At £7.5m, Rogers does not need to match the premium midfielders to offer value.
His case becomes strong if:
- He starts regularly on the left or as a No 10.
- He continues playing 75 minutes or more.
- Chelsea's attack improves under Alonso.
- His central touches and penalty-area involvement remain high.
- He avoids heavy rotation despite Chelsea's depth.
His price is low enough to fit alongside one or two premium attackers without forcing an extremely weak bench.
The risks
Rogers is moving from a team where he was central to almost every attacking phase into a deeper squad.
The main risks are:
- Rotation
- Early substitutions
- Competition for left-sided and central attacking roles
- Less freedom than he had at Aston Villa
- No expected penalty duties while Palmer is available
His transfer fee does not guarantee that he starts every league match.
FPL verdict
Rogers is one of the strongest £7.5m midfielders to monitor before Gameweek 1.
He is not an automatic selection until pre-season confirms his exact role and minutes. However, a secure position in Chelsea's front three would make him a serious opening-week option rather than only a watchlist player.
